Just a Kiss

The ever unique Girl With One Eye had the interesting idea for people to post a kiss scene from their one of their books for the 21st. Normally, I don't post excerpts but today, I though, "Well, why not? Just this once."

So, without further ado, an excerpt from Miss Snitch.
------

“Have I said Happy New Year yet?” I whispered.

“No, I don’t think you have,” he answered with a smile.

“Well, Happy New Year, then,” I told him. Inside, we could hear people counting down to midnight. Ten … Nine … Eight… Our eyes met, and suddenly all there was was him, me, the moon and stars, and the sound of oncoming midnight. Three… Two… One… Happy New Year! I smiled at him. I wanted to speak, but somehow my voice didn’t seem to work anymore.

I don’t know what I expected, except that as we stood there, I prayed he wouldn’t back away.

He didn’t. Instead, he leaned in closer. We were almost chest to chest. I could feel his breath hot on my cheeks. And then it happened.

He kissed me.

It wasn’t a long kiss. At least, I don’t think it was. It felt like it lasted days, but it probably only lasted a few seconds. It wasn’t impassioned either, and I doubt it looked anything like a kiss from a movie.

Still, it felt like the whole universe, the instant his lips touched mine, dissolved into the two of us, and suddenly I couldn’t feel the cold anymore or hear the sounds from the party inside. Somewhere, deep, in the farthest recesses of my mind, one thought occurred. ‘Wow.’

  1. Ellis came and stood behind her. He placed his hands on her shoulders and spun her around to face him.
“Violet, you are loving and kind and one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Do not let anyone tell you any different.” Ellis’ grip tightened on her shoulders then he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers for a kiss.
Violet was stunned but as the pressure of his lips increased on hers, she gradually gave in to the feelings of floating on air that he invoked in her on the dance floor.
Ellis deepened the kiss sliding his arms around her to pull her closer to his body. He knew he should stop, they were in the park and anyone could see them but he couldn’t let her go. She tasted so sweet, so fresh, so alive. Nothing like his late wife. He felt his arousal growing but couldn’t stop.
Violet placed her hands on his chest and felt the heat through his jacket. She felt her legs growing weak and knew she should stop before she fell but she couldn’t. This was too much like heaven and if she died right now, she would be happy.
Janie stirred on the blanket and gave a small cry.
Violet jumped away from his embrace and ran to the child.

  2. If your Miss Snitch is found kissing, I wonder who will be spreading the gossip?!

You both had a great idea - posting kisses. I've been working on an MG, all-action WIP since November. So, it was such fun to start up NEAR EDGWARE and find Jess and Caleb's kiss which, co-incidently, took place on 21st December.

If you enjoy the build-up please feel free to drop by my blog where I let them get as far as gluing their lips together. :)

We stood in the glow of the Christmas decorations that shone out into the dark from the lobby of the pub and restaurant.
“Call me later?” Caleb’s warm breath moistened my ear and, as I shivered, his fingers traced the raised lines and bones from wrist to fingernail tips.
“Umm,” I agreed. I gazed into the warm honey glow of his eyes, but his raised eye brow preoccupied my thoughts even more.
Caleb’s laughter vibrated through me, his arms surrounded me and he lifted me from the floor. My eyes were level with his and my distraction was complete, “Promise?”
The soft fabric of his dark school jacket gave way to the silkier strands of his hair as I moved both hands to cradle his head. I had lost the desire to speak. Action seemed, suddenly, very necessary. But Caleb’s lips thinned and drew back – his smile could not spread wider. The tiny frown between his eyebrows spoiled the perfection. Leaning forward to place my lips there, to smooth it away, I caught the warning glint in his eye. My hands curled over his shoulders and gripped while he twirled us around.
Caleb, with the multi-coloured Christmas lights reflecting in his pale hair, was electrifying. I absorbed each sensation to complete the image: crisp, cold air, pine from the tree, his warmth radiating from beneath the woollen coat. My senses were heightened, then he let me slide back down the length of his body to the floor. It took me a while remember I was trying to answer his question, “Promise what?”
